BYD has secured the top position in the global automotive innovation ranking in the Automotive INNOVATIONS Report 2026 released by Germany-based Center of Automotive Management (CAM), marking a historic first for a Chinese automaker. The company achieved 157 points, surpassing last year’s leader Volkswagen, which ranked second with 143 points, while Mercedes-Benz secured third place with 134 points.
This milestone reflects BYD’s rapidly expanding innovation capabilities and its strengthening global competitiveness in the automotive sector. Since the CAM Automotive INNOVATIONS study was first introduced in 2005, this is the first time a Chinese manufacturer has led the global ranking, underscoring a significant shift in the industry landscape.
The report highlights the increasing influence of Chinese automakers in shaping future mobility technologies, with BYD’s strong performance driven by advancements across electrification, new energy solutions, and technology integration. The ranking signals a broader transformation in the global automotive ecosystem, where innovation leadership is becoming increasingly diversified across regions.
