Millions of Indians drive on Roads and 400 never come back home, everyday. Road Deaths are biggest cause of Unnatural Deaths in our Country. Pedestrians are killed across the country and contributed to the significant share of these deaths. Believing in “Sadak Suraksha – Jeevan Raksha “, NGO, DRIVE SMART DRIVE SAFE is organising, the 250 KM relay walkathon from Delhi to Chandigarh. DRIVE SMART DRIVE SAFE an NGO for Road Safety is all geared up to be active part of the Road Safety Week announced by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways from 23rd – 30th April 2018.


“DRIVE SMART DRIVE SAFE” is organising a Mega event, 250 KM Delhi to Chandigarh Relay Walkathon for Road Safety awareness during the Road Safety Week. It’s supported by Hella , ACMA, SIAM, FICCI , CII-Yi, Arrive Safe NGO & Punjab Police.

The flag off for the event happened at India Gate in Delhi on 23rd April at 5 am where around 500 people gathered. Rama Shankar Pandey, MD Hella India Lighting, Anil Sultan, CFO Hella India, Devir Singh, Chairman Road Safety Delhi CII YI, Madhav Singhania, Chairman YI, Sumeet Gupta, Senior Director, Head – Publishing / Homeland Security / Private Security / Geospatial Technologies from FICCI were present to flag off the event.

The mega Walkathon is being executed by the Hella employees in pairs where they would walk for 5km each pair at a stretch and pass the baton to the next pair and so on, involving and engaging many safety warriors on the go. Live camera are with the walker and Dash Cam on the vehicle following the walker is recording live the difficulties of walking on Indian Roads. The rally will use service lanes wherever available.


It’s a step towards fighting a long battle to make India Safer for pedestrian. While designing and executing Road construction projects in Cities and Highways, Pedestrian safety has not been a priority. The objective is to run for awareness of the same, but also capture live video images as evidence of walking and difficulties on the way .These real evidences will be used to create awareness about necessity of seamless walking zones for Pedestrians, else we will continue to loose them in Road Accidents. Let’s be part of history in making. It is a historical step in the journey of making India free from all avoidable Road Deaths.

The relay walkathon which stared from Delhi will be concluded by a mega walkathon at Zirakpur, on 27th April 2018.
