The Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) has stated that the successful implementation of the Delhi EV Policy 2026 will require a simultaneous focus on workforce skill development to meet the operational demands of a transitioning automotive sector. Responding to the newly outlined policy framework, ASDC Chairperson Vinkesh Gulati described the initiative as a step toward a cleaner and smarter mobility ecosystem. He noted that the policy’s provisions, which include consumer incentives, phased electrification timelines, scrappage benefits, and charging infrastructure expansion, provide the regulatory clarity necessary to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) adoption.
However, the council emphasised that preparing a skilled workforce is equally critical to sustaining this transition. According to the ASDC, the expansion of electric mobility will generate significant industry demand for specialised technical roles. Key areas identified for workforce development include: EV technicians, battery specialists, charging infrastructure professionals and advanced vehicle service engineers.
“At Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC), we believe that policy and skill development must move together,” Gulati said in a statement. “Building industry-ready talent will be critical to ensuring the success of India’s EV ambitions while creating high-quality green jobs for youth.”
Gulati further indicated that the Delhi framework could act as a benchmark for other regional governments. He stated that aligning regulatory reforms and industry participation with targeted skill development can drive sustainable economic growth and support India’s position in the global electric mobility market.
