ZF Enters Indian Railway Sector with First Gearbox Order

ZF, the global technology company driving next-generation mobility, has announced its first gearbox manufacturing order for the Indian railway sector in India, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to sustainable and localized transport solutions.

The gearbox will be assembled at ZF’s Coimbatore facility, underlining the company’s focus on Make in India and leveraging its global engineering expertise. The single-stage spur gear drive is designed for durability, performance, and efficiency, specifically tailored to meet the operational requirements of India’s expanding rail infrastructure.

Supporting the Vande Bharat Express

The gearbox will be supplied for the Vande Bharat Express, India’s semi high-speed indigenous trainset.

Ever since its launch in 2019, Vande Bharat has transported more than 30 million passengers across the country. The train is a semi-highspeed trainset with faster acceleration and deceleration, reducing travel time by 25% to 45%. Accordingly, the team highlighted its need for advanced technology solutions combined with efficiency and safety to the ZF team.
