SWITCH Mobility has expanded its electric bus portfolio with the launch of the EiV9, a new-generation 9-metre electric bus developed for city transit, employee transportation and school mobility. Unveiled at Prawaas 5.0, the new platform reflects the company’s continued focus on delivering technology-led electric mobility solutions for India’s rapidly evolving public transport sector.
The EiV9 has been engineered on SWITCH Mobility’s next-generation electric bus platform and is designed to balance operational efficiency with passenger comfort while lowering the total cost of ownership (TCO) for fleet operators. The launch comes as the medium-sized electric bus segment continues to gain momentum, driven by urban mobility requirements and the increasing electrification of institutional transport fleets.
Speaking at the launch, Ganesh Mani, CEO, SWITCH Mobility, said the company expects the 9-metre electric bus segment to grow at a CAGR of nearly 34% by FY2030, driven by rising demand across public and institutional mobility applications. He added that the EiV9 has been purpose-built to deliver the four attributes operators value most, higher efficiency, superior passenger comfort, advanced safety and lower operating costs, while creating tangible business value alongside environmental benefits.
At the heart of the EiV9 is a Permanent Magnet Variable Reluctance (PMVR) traction motor capable of delivering up to 213 kW of peak power. The platform supports multiple battery pack configurations, allowing operators to optimise vehicle specification based on route length and duty cycle. Regenerative braking and dual-gun CCS2 DC fast charging further improve vehicle utilisation by reducing charging time and maximising operational uptime.
The bus has also been engineered with passenger experience in mind. Features such as full front and rear air suspension, a spacious interior layout, ergonomic seating and individual USB charging ports enhance commuter comfort, while optional pushback seats cater to employee transportation applications.
Safety technologies include a Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS), front and rear disc brakes and a high-voltage electrical architecture designed for reliable operation under diverse Indian operating conditions.
Alongside the EiV9, SWITCH Mobility introduced its #SwitchKaro campaign, aimed at encouraging fleet operators, businesses and public transport authorities to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility by highlighting its operational, environmental and commercial benefits.
The company also showcased the updated EiV12 Intercity electric coach, equipped with Digital ORVMs, SWITCH iON connected vehicle technology, dual-gun DC fast charging, floor-mounted LFP battery packs and advanced battery management capabilities, reinforcing SWITCH Mobility’s commitment to building a comprehensive electric bus portfolio for both city and intercity applications.
With the EiV9, SWITCH Mobility is strengthening its position in India’s electric bus market by combining indigenous engineering, connected technologies and scalable electric powertrain solutions to meet the evolving requirements of fleet operators and public transport authorities.
