Volkswagen Group and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M) have inked the inaugural supply agreement for components of Volkswagen’s MEB, tailored for Mahindra’s purpose-built electric platform, INGLO, marking a pivotal stride in their shared vision for e-mobility collaboration. This pact encompasses the provision of specific electric components and unified cells.
The agreement signifies a deepening partnership between Volkswagen and Mahindra, originating from a partnering agreement and term sheet established in 2022. Both entities are poised to explore further avenues for collaboration expansion. Mahindra is poised to become the pioneering external partner to adopt Volkswagen’s revolutionary unified cell concept, a cornerstone of Volkswagen’s battery strategy. The supply deal is slated to span several years, with a cumulative volume of approximately 50 GWh.
Volkswagen Group and Mahindra aspire to fortify their e-mobility presence in the Indian automotive sector, fostering accelerated electrification across the region. Mahindra’s roadmap includes the launch of five all-electric SUVs in India, based on its novel purpose-built electric platform, INGLO, commencing from December 2024. With India boasting over five million new vehicles annually in 2023, it stands as one of the globe’s largest automotive markets, expected to witness a significant upsurge in passenger car segment electrification in the foreseeable future.
Volkswagen’s MEB platform and associated components are utilized by an array of Group brands such as Volkswagen, Audi, skoda, and SEAT/CUPRA, alongside external partners including Ford and Mahindra. The partnership with Mahindra is spearheaded by Volkswagen Group Technology and its “Platform Business” unit in tandem with skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd.
