The Celerio was launched in 2014, and became the first car in India to be equipped with the Auto Gear Shift (AGS), automated-manual transmission (AMT) technology. The AGS technology is claimed to offer convent city driving, at an attractive price and without compromise on fuel economy. The car is the first from MSIL to get the company’s compact diesel engine, and the only hatch in its segment to come in three fuel options – Petrol, Diesel and CNG.

MSIL said that while the Celerio LXi AMT (O) variant with the optional safety equipment will be available shortly, the CNG Green VXi (O) variant is being offered with dual airbags only. The company claims to have sold over 1.3 lakh units of Celerio across India.

R S Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, MSIL, said the company is making the Celerio more attractive for customers by offering dual airbags and ABS from the base variant onwards. He added that Maruti is happy to be able to offer these safety features on Celerio much ahead of regulations.
