Gates India showcased the latest power transmission and fluid power innovations at ACMA Automechanika New Delhi 2026, writes Richa Tyagi.
Gates India, a subsidiary of Gates Corporation, exhibited its latest product range at ACMA Automechanika New Delhi 2026. With a significant market share in India, the company highlighted developments in its two core divisions: power transmission and fluid power. The company’s portfolio includes automotive belts, tensioners, and idlers, alongside fluid power hoses used across automotive and industrial equipment. Over the last two years, Gates has expanded its offerings across all product categories to meet evolving market demands.
Belt Conversion Kit
A key highlight of the exhibit was a belt drive conversion kit for the Royal Enfield 350cc segment, including the Meteor, Hunter, Classic, and Bullet models. This system replaces the traditional chain drive with a belt drive configuration. Rajat Agarwal, National Sales Manager (Mobility) at Gates Corporation, explained, “The conversion involves changing from sprockets to pulleys and from chains to belts. The belt uses a specific polychain material, which offers a different performance profile than conventional chains.”
The conversion utilises the Moto X9, a belt designed for Royal Enfield motorcycles and two-wheeler EV applications. The belt is manufactured using a specialised polyurethane grade material. The compound is sourced from the United States, where it is exclusively manufactured. The technology behind this belt is supported by more than 2,000 patents.
EV and Scooter Applications
Gates is expanding its presence in the Electric Vehicle (EV) and scooter segments through several OE partnerships. For Ather Energy, the company currently supplies the secondary belt drive system, consisting of the belt, motor pulley, and rear pulley, and is developing a primary belt drive system for the 450X series and the HEXA platform. Additionally, Gates is providing the complete primary and secondary belt systems, including the wheels, for Royal Enfield’s upcoming Flying Flea electric motorcycle. The company also maintains a broader OE supply chain, providing drive components to TVS and Hero MotoCorp.
CVT Belt Range
For the internal combustion engine (ICE) scooter market, Gates showcased Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) belts. These are designed for high-volume models such as the Honda Activa, Aprilia range, Hero Destini, and Suzuki scooters. By expanding its range in both fluid power and transmission systems, Gates India continues to support both the traditional automotive aftermarket and the emerging electric mobility sector.
