India is set to welcome two complete semiconductor fabrication plants, accompanied by significant investments, as confirmed by Minister of Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The projects include an $8 billion proposal from Tower Semiconductors, based in Israel, and another from the Tata Group.
Chandrasekhar revealed this exciting development, emphasizing the substantial investments and technological advancements involved. The fabrication plants will operate on cutting-edge 65, 40, and 28-nanometer technology, with additional packaging proposals under consideration.
Responding to inquiries about Tower Semiconductors’ $8 billion investment proposal and India’s semiconductor roadmap, the minister assured that these projects would be greenlit during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term if not approved before the upcoming general elections.
Highlighting the credibility and significance of the investment proposals, Chandrasekhar mentioned Tata’s involvement in the semiconductor fab initiatives. He expressed confidence in the swift realization of these projects.
The government has received numerous proposals for semiconductor manufacturing and chip assembly, testing, monitoring, and packaging (ATMP) units. These proposals complement the significant investment in Gujarat by US-based memory chip maker Micron, further fortifying India’s position in the semiconductor industry.
