Steel Ministry of India to take steps to make India future-ready and net exporter, says Rasika Chaube – Additional Steel Secretary at the Inauguration of Global Stainless Steel Expo in Mumbai

The three-day Global Stainless-Steel Expo (GSSE) 2022 kicked off on Tuesday at the Jio World Centre, BKC in Mumbai. This is the first and only stainless steel event organised in the world to promote the stainless steel industry’s interest. More than 500 companies from all over the world took part in the event. The Expo was opened by Additional Steel Secretary Rasika Chaube in the presence of Jindal Stainless Limited MD Abhyuday Jindal, Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) President KK Pahuja, and Executive Director of SAIL’s Saleem Steel Plant, Sanjeev Taneja. The Additional Secretary launched a vision document 2047 at the event. In her address, the official directed industry participants to take steps to make India a net exporter. She also stated that the Ministry of Steel is taking several steps to increase the country’s use of steel and stainless steel.

According to the Vision document 2047, stainless steel demand is expected to grow by 19.5-21 per cent to reach 3.7-3.9 MT fiscal 2022, owing to a low base, a stable macroeconomic environment, and normalised government spending. According to industrialist Abhyuday Jindal, the Ministry has taken various steps to advance the steel industry, such as the launch of the National Steel Policy 2017, a focus on scrap recycling, quality control orders, and so on. He went on to say that the industry is looking forward to the steel ministry’s ongoing support in achieving the stainless-steel vision of 2047.
The Indian stainless steel industry has sufficient capacity. KK Pahuja said the Stainless steel industry is committed to playing its role in the nation-building providing sustainable solutions across various sectors.

GSSE 2022 will also have Outokumpu, Ratnamani, Laxcon Steel and Minox Metal as Gold Partners. The exhibition is supported by Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) as Lead Association, Pegasus Consulting as Knowledge Partner, Stainless Bazaar as Digital Partner, Stainless Steel Pipe & Tube Manufacturer Association (SSPTMA), Metal and Stainless Steel Merchants Association (MASSMA), All India Stainless Steel Industries Association (AISSIA), Stainless Steel Merchants Association (SSMA), Process Plant & Machinery Association of India (PPMAI) and Non-Ferrous Metals Association-Karnataka (N’MAK).

The exhibition will be hosted with adequate safety precautions in place to avoid the spread of COVID-19. Commenting about the event, Anitha Raghunath, Director, Virgo Communications and Exhibitions said “India is a prominent nation for the global steel industry, leading the way and setting an example for others to emulate. As such, it needed a dedicated convergence point to explore business development opportunities, get perspectives from experts and most importantly, get reliable information in a ‘hands-on’ format. GSSE 2022 has been astutely planned to accomplish precisely that. As responsible organisers, we have gone the extra mile and tried our level best to meet the expectations of industry stakeholders at GSSE 2022″
