The industry produced a total 21,820,072 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three-wheelers and two-wheelers in April-February 2016 as against 21,460,837 in April-February 2015, registering a marginal growth of 1.67% over the same period last year. In April-February 2016, overall automobile exports grew by 1.56%. Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles, three-wheelers and two-wheelers registered a growth of 3.14%, 17.66%, 3.01% and 0.37% respectively in April-February 2016 over April-February 2015.
The sales of Passenger Vehicles grew by 7.50% in April-February 2016 over the same period last year. Within the Passenger Vehicles, Passenger Cars, Utility Vehicles and Vans grew by 8.73%, 4.77% and 2.87% respectively during April-February 2016 over the same period. The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a growth of 10.42% in April-February 2016 as compared to the same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered a growth at 30.63% while Light Commercial Vehicles declined by 1.45% during April-February 2016 over the same period last year.
Three-wheelers sales declined by 0.50% in April-February 2016 over the same period last year. Passenger carrier sales increased by 0.24% & goods carrier sales declined by 3.75% respectively in April-February 2016 over April-February 2015. Two-wheeler sales registered a growth at 2.29% during April-February 2016 over April-February 2015. Within the two-wheeler segment, scooters grew by 11.61% while motorcycles and mopeds dropped by 1.14% and 4.11% respectively in April-February 2016 over April-February 2015.
