Bridgestone India, a subsidiary of Bridgestone Corporation, Japan, organised a three-day sustainability campaign from 19th to 21st June, involving employees and local communities at its Pune and Indore plants.
The campaign emphasised Bridgestone’s commitment to sustainability, aligning with the Bridgestone 3.0 Journey, which aims to deliver social and customer value as a sustainable solutions company. The event aimed to deeply engage employees and local communities in sustainability efforts.
Highlights of the campaign included:
World Yoga Day Participation: 168 employees participated in yoga sessions at the Pune and Indore locations.
Sustainability Awareness Session: Mr. S.J.R Kutty, VP and Chief Sustainability Officer at Tata Motors, emphasised the need for increased commitment to sustainability across the automotive supply chain.
Employee Contributions: Employees donated old clothes, which were recycled into reusable bags by the Swayamsidhha program, supporting women’s empowerment and reducing plastic use.
Clean-up Drive: Local communities and Bridgestone employees conducted clean-up and sanitation activities around the manufacturing sites.
Sustainability Ideas: Employees shared innovative ideas on integrating sustainability into daily life, with the best ideas receiving awards.
Mr. Hiroshi Yoshizane, Managing Director of Bridgestone India, stated, “Our sustainability journey is driven by our commitment to deliver social and customer value. Globally, we have reduced our CO2 emissions by approximately 50% by 2023, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050. Initiatives like the Sustainability Campaign 2024 highlight our focus on maximising impact and encouraging stakeholder participation.”
Bridgestone’s Pune facility, producing over 4 million tyres annually, was verified as a carbon-neutral unit in 2022, having reduced its carbon footprint by 94% through measures like a 5 MW solar power capacity and a biomass-based boiler plant. Additionally, Bridgestone India has planted over 3,500 saplings at its Pune and Indore locations, which also host Butterfly Gardens with 170 butterfly and 105 bird species.
