Sona BLW Precision Forgings (Sona Comstar) has recently achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first automotive component manufacturer to receive certification under the Auto Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. This is a significant accomplishment for the company and a testament to their dedication to automotive technology solutions. Sona Comstar filed seven applications for different products under the PLI scheme, and they have successfully received certification for their first product, which is a hub wheel drive motor specifically designed for electric two-wheelers. It’s impressive to see their in-house research and development team take the lead in designing and developing these EV traction motors, which were launched into production in 2020.
In 2021, the Indian government introduced the Auto PLI scheme as a means to promote and incentivize domestic production of advanced automotive technology vehicles and products. With a budgetary outlay of Rs. 259 billion over a span of five years, starting from FY 2023-24, the PLI scheme aims to boost the growth of the auto and auto component sector in the country. Vivek Vikram Singh, the Managing Director and Group CEO of Sona Comstar, expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), IFCI, and GARC for granting the approval. This certification serves as a recognition of the company’s commitment to solving complex engineering problems and showcasing India’s engineering prowess. Overall, this achievement highlights Sona Comstar’s dedication to innovation, technological advancement, and their contribution to the growth of the automotive industry in India. It’s truly a moment of pride for the company and a testament to their relentless pursuit of excellence.
