Polymatech Electronics, India’s leading manufacturer of opto-semiconductor chips, has recently entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Orbray Co Ltd, a Japanese firm. This partnership marks a significant step towards Polymatech’s ambition to become a fully integrated semiconductor company. Under the terms of the agreement, Orbray will provide Sapphire Ingot growing technologies, with the installation slated for completion by March 2025.

As part of the deal, Polymatech will send its engineers for training at Orbray’s facilities in Japan. This move is expected to bolster Polymatech’s wafer fabrication capabilities, primarily serving its internal needs. Additionally, any surplus capacity generated will cater to companies entering the Indian market seeking packaging and other semiconductor solutions.

Eswara Rao Nandam, the Managing Director and CEO of Polymatech Electronics hailed this collaboration as a historic milestone, perfectly aligned with the company’s long-term vision. With an illustrious 85-year history, Orbray is renowned for its expertise in precision components, particularly optical fibre components and Sapphire wafers.

Since its inception in 2019, Polymatech Electronics has been the sole Indian company dedicated to producing opto-semiconductor chips. Now, with plans to expand its production capacity and venture into multi-wafer production, Polymatech is actively pursuing government subsidies and engaging in advanced discussions with suppliers of silicon carbide and silicon wafer fabrication machinery.
