Three significant test system orders, including for powertrain and tire manufacturing and testing, have been secured by ZF Group, marking a significant milestone for India’s automotive and mobility industry. The orders that have been secured include systems for end-of-line tire testing, a 440 KW differential unit test bench, and tire test benches for various machines used in endurance, efficiency, and high-speed testing. These orders totaling several million euros are for clients who are present throughout India in the automobile sector. With these orders, ZF Group formally enters the Indian market for powertrains and next-generation vehicles. The first project involves the supply of India’s first 440KW transmission test bench featuring a cutting-edge 3E dyno configuration. This state-of-the-art system is designed without any intermediate gearbox, significantly reducing energy losses and delivering best-in-class performance, dynamic and accuracy.
The business is implementing a number of innovative features that set the system apart as part of this historic configuration:
- The first-ever, best-in-class, 440KW differential unit test bench in India.
- For highly dynamic applications, use a low inertia input dyno.
- The best accuracy in results without any losses is provided by a direct shaft connection to the Device Under Test (DUT), which does away with the need for intermediate gearboxes or chain systems.
- Nearly all DUT types can be precisely tested thanks to the movable dyno system’s horizontal adjustments, which increase flexibility.
- There are eight tire test benches in all for Indian tire producers.
In addition to a movable dyno with horizontal adjustment capabilities for increased flexibility, the system features a 3E dyno configuration designed for maximum efficiency and data accuracy. Chain systems or intermediate gearboxes are not required because the shaft is connected directly to the Device Under Test (DUT). Three end-of-line test benches for passenger car tires, which will be delivered to another Indian manufacturer, and multiple tire R&D test benches for a top tire manufacturer are the two other noteworthy business wins. A rolling resistance (efficiency) tester and multiple endurance and high-speed testers for passenger cars and two-wheelers in different configurations make up the R&D test benches. Automated testing systems used at the end of the production line are known as end-of-line (EOL) test benches. Their main goal is to guarantee product quality prior to the tires being shipped from the factory.
ZF Group India President Akash Passey emphasized this significant accomplishment, saying, “ZF is proud to be introducing our highly advanced testing technology to India. These orders serve as a benchmark for upcoming projects in the area in addition to setting a new standard for the segment. These directives reaffirm our dedication to engineering innovation and quality in the automotive and industrial sectors.
Customers enhance the quality of the driveline, active chassis, tires and wheels, brakes, and batteries with the help of ZF’s validation and development test facilities. In turn, this significantly improves drivers’ comfort and safety in all weather conditions. From single test benches to entire test lines, ZF’s product line offers the expertise of an internationally active engineering team that is constantly creating solutions for the future of mobility, including new demands like e-mobility and autonomous driving.
