A joint venture to manufacture railway propulsion systems and components has been announced by TATA AutoComp, one of the top auto component companies in India, and Škoda Group, a major European manufacturer of public transportation vehicles and components. The goal of the partnership is to assist India’s expanding railway and transportation sectors.
The new company, which the two partners jointly own, will manufacture converters, drives, and auxiliary converters for medium high-speed and regional trains, metros, and light rail vehicles. Manufacturing will be based in India. The joint venture, which involves a multi-million-euro investment, is expected to benefit the region economically and technologically.
TATA AutoComp holds a significant market share in the provision of systems and components for electric vehicles. This collaboration will broaden TATA AutoComp’s portfolio and enhance its capabilities in the Railway and Metro segments. TATA AutoComp aims to bring sustainable innovations in mobility solutions at an affordable cost, with a focus on rolling stock in India.
The JV signing ceremony took place at the Hotel Taj Mahal in New Delhi, and senior leaders from both organizations were in attendance. The Czech Republic’s Ambassador to India, H.E. Eliška Žigová, attended the event.

Škoda Group has a strong foundation in developing and producing electrical equipment and rolling stock components. The company designs and manufactures components that meet high reliability, safety, efficiency, and low energy consumption standards.
Robustness, low lifetime costs, and maximum environmental friendliness. TATA AutoComp will manufacture these components in India, with technical support from Škoda Group. TATA AutoComp’s expertise in the Indian Railway Market, including contributions to the ‘Vande Bharat’ train project, will be leveraged in this partnership for mutual benefit and sustainability.
