Marelli has secured a significant contract from a major global carmaker to supply the Battery Thermal Plate (BTP) for future Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). This solution, crucial for thermal energy management in electric vehicles, has been developed and will be produced in-house by Marelli. Starting in 2024, the supply agreement will cover approximately 5 million units over the contract period, catering to various vehicle platforms and segments across the Chinese, North American, and European markets.
Shuji Kobayashi, President of Marelli’s Green Technology Solutions business, expressed pride in this assignment, emphasizing the importance of collaborating with global carmakers to optimize thermal energy management in vehicles. Effective thermal management is essential for maintaining battery performance and efficiency in fully electric vehicles, impacting battery life, driving range, propulsion system performance, and fast-charging capability. The battery must remain within an optimal temperature range under all conditions, ensuring a comfortable cabin environment.
Marelli’s Battery Thermal Plate employs a ‘Dot Dimples’ design for optimized heat exchange, stabilizing battery cell temperatures and ensuring uniformity. The product’s flat design facilitates easy integration and assembly within the vehicle, and the use of durable materials guarantees high quality. Marelli’s in-house testing laboratories and simulation capabilities allow for quick adaptation of the technology to meet specific customer needs. Production will take place in China, Mexico, and Romania, leveraging Marelli’s global R&D centers. In addition to the Battery Thermal Plate, Marelli offers comprehensive solutions for managing the heat balance of all vehicle systems.
