Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) has recorded robust sales in June 2016.
DOMESTIC SALES:
Growing nearly double than the 12% domestic industry growth, Honda’s domestic sales grew 23% from 331,859 units to 407,979 units in June’16. Honda’s automatic scooter sales jumped 21% and stood at 265,361 units led by Activa – India’s No. 1 selling two-wheeler of 2016. Increased demand of motorcycles led by CB Shine SP, CD 110 Dream DX, Livo and CB Hornet 160R saw Honda’s motorcycle sales grow a robust 27% to 142,618 units.
EXPORTS:
Despite the export industry declining by -17%, Honda’s exports grew by 13% from 17,015 units in June’15 to close at 19,243 units in June’16.
TOTAL SALES:
Honda continues to trail-blaze its way as the industry’s No. 1 Volume gainer for 3 months in a row. Honda sold a total of 427,222 units in June’16 (compared to 348,874 units in June’15).
UNDISPUTED GROWTH DRIVER OF 2WHEELER INDUSTRY:
Honda’s growth in June, 2016 stood at 23%, which is nearly three times that of the 8% domestic+export industry growth. What makes this more significant is that alone Honda added 78,348 new units in June’16 and contributed an overwhelming 65% to total industry’s new volume addition!
MARKET SHARE:
Honda is also the two-wheeler industry’s No. 1 Market Share gainer in June’16.
Fully utilizing the new capacity of its recently inaugurated 4th plant in Gujarat to meet customer demand, Honda’s total market share has increased 3.1% points to 26% in June 2016.

Production expansion: Honda 2Wheelers inaugurated the 2nd assembly line of 6 lac units annual capacity at its scooter only plant in Gujarat. This is Honda’s ‘Fastest Ever Expansion’ to 100% capacity creation in just 4 months of plant inauguration and takes 4th plant’s annual production capacity to 1.2 million units.
