Federal-Mogul Corporation’s powertrain segment was the recipient of a 2014 Automotive News PACE(TM) Award at a ceremony on April 7 in Detroit. The award recognises automotive suppliers for superior innovation, technological advancement and business performance.
The company’s lead-free engine bearings were recognised in the product category, which highlights innovations in new products, components or systems that have significant market impact and act as ‘game changers’ in the automotive industry.
“The PACE Award process recognises innovation, which is the foundation of our business – providing innovative powertrain solutions for our customers,” said Gian Maria Olivetti, Vice President, Technology and Innovation, Federal-Mogul Powertrain.
Federal-Mogul was the first, and is still the only company to offer a comprehensive portfolio of lead-free bearing products, driven by legislative mandates in Europe in 2008. To replace lead as an alloying element in sliding engine bearings, the company’s engineers were successful in developing a portfolio of materials based on significantly different tribological and physical properties, which are effective for gasoline and diesel engines for both main and connecting rod bearing applications and under a broad range of load cycles.
