Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM) and Shell India Markets Private Limited (SIMPL) have joined forces to advance India’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem. This collaboration, marked by a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding, aims to establish public charging stations across India by leveraging Shell’s extensive fuel station network and TPEM’s expertise gleaned from over 1.4 lakh Tata EVs on Indian roads. The strategic placement of chargers at locations frequented by Tata EV owners, coupled with efforts to enhance the charging experience, underscores the commitment to encourage EV adoption in the country.
By exploring synergies, the two companies seek to introduce convenient payment systems and loyalty programs, thereby adding significant value to TPEM’s customer base. TPEM, commanding a substantial 71% market share in electric passenger vehicles, has been instrumental in bolstering India’s EV ecosystem. From launching EV-exclusive stores to collaborating with charge point operators, TPEM has played a pivotal role in expanding India’s charging infrastructure.
Shell’s EV Recharge locations, renowned for their reliability and ultra-fast charging capabilities, offer additional conveniences such as retail options, elevating the overall customer experience. Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer of TPEM and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., underscores the partnership’s role in growing the charging infrastructure crucial for mainstream EV adoption in India.
Sanjay Varkey, Director of Shell India Markets Private Limited, emphasizes Shell’s commitment to providing integrated solutions prioritizing convenience, safety, and sustainability. With a focus on using 100% certified renewable sources and efficient chargers, Shell aims to promote widespread EV adoption through digital integration and customer-centric initiatives.
Recognizing the pivotal role of ubiquitous charging infrastructure in driving EV adoption, this collaboration between industry leaders is poised to propel India’s EV growth into its next phase. Through strategic partnerships and a shared commitment to innovation, TPEM and Shell are poised to accelerate India’s transition towards sustainable mobility.
