Dürr opens two new halls at the Püttlingen site (Saarland)
Aside from numerous carmakers, more and more customers from the commercial vehicle industry are relying on the measuring and test stands offered by Dürr Assembly Products GmbH. To meet the demand for these exceptionally large and heavy systems, the Püttlingen-based company has now expanded its production facilities. On October 7, 2014, business partners, customers and local VIPs attended the official opening of the two new halls. Among the guests were the Minister-President of Saarland, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, and Minister for Economic Affairs, Anke Rehlinger.
“With halls 4 and 5, we have gained about 3,200 square meters, which gives us 20% more floor space. This allows us not only to handle more orders but also to be considerably more flexible than before, as we now combine all production and logistics processes at our site”, explains Managing Director Horst Hartmann. And that is certainly necessary, since more and more commercial vehicle customers are buying the products of the measuring and test stand specialists. The customers have specific requirements when it comes to the size and weight of the systems. As a result, one of the halls which is used to assemble the systems reaches an exceptional height of more than 13 meters and has a particularly strong structure made of reinforced concrete. Three cranes with a total load capacity of 40 tons ensure that the heavy test stands for trucks and buses are placed in the right position fast and securely. The hall has a total floor space of 1,700 square meters. At more than 1,500 square meters, the new logistics hall is almost as large.
Production processes used for passenger cars are increasingly being adopted for commercial vehicle manufacturing, with more and more test procedures being automated. We believe this offers a considerable potential for growth for our solutions, which are already used by a large number of customers. The site expansion in Püttlingen is essential if we want to make the most of this potential”, says Dr. Ralf-Michael Fuchs, CEO of Carl Schenck AG and head of the Measuring and Process Systems division at Dürr group.
Anke Rehlinger, Minister for Economic Affairs: “A company is only as successful as its qualified employees. The opening of the new halls proves that this is the case at Dürr Assembly Products. The economy in Saarland depends on this type of high-performance, medium-sized company. Moreover, any expansion project is a clear commitment to the region and shows that Saarland is an attractive business location.”
