csm_PAS_neu_eisblau_340_dpi_7b6e9d9974Dürr will build the paint shop for the successor model of the Volkswagen Crafter in the new Polish VW plant Wrzesnia. This contract is one of the biggest projects in the history of Dürr and was awarded in the second quarter of 2014. The paint shop will enable a particularly resource-saving operation with low energy, water and material consumption. This is the hallmark of the Eco+Paintshop concept of Dürr, which is jointly implemented with Volkswagen.

As general contractor, Dürr supplies the entire equipment and the building. 36 painting robots take care of the automated paint application. Because of efficient high speed rotating atomizers and color changers less paint is used than in conventional systems. Dürr will install an additional 18 robots for seam sealing and underbody protection.

When it comes to corrosion-protective dip coating, VW trusts the new energy-saving EcoDC-MACS technology of Dürr. The spray booths use the EcoDryScrubber process. It reduces the energy consumption in the spray booth by up to 60% as less fresh air must be treated. It also requires neither water nor chemicals and reduces the exhaust air volume. Car body ovens are equipped with energy-saving heat recovery technology.

Ralf W. Dieter, CEO of Dürr AG: “The Dürr Eco+Paintshop offers a holistic approach to optimization of energy, resource and material consumption. Thus we contribute to increased sustainability and efficiency in automotive painting.”
